Calls for Entries May 2014

It is time for my monthly summary of upcoming calls for entries for photographers, particularly those in Maine and New England. This list is certainly not exhaustive and usually reflects ones of particular interest to me, but hopefully it will be helpful to many of you as well.

Maine Medical Center has a rotating arts exhibit and has submissions due May 2nd for an exhibit that would run for four months starting in June.

The Vermont PhotoPlace Gallery has a call for entries entitled “The Human-Altered Landscape” due May 5th. They offer free framing in standard sizes, too, to help minimize costs if selected.

The BlackBox Gallery in Portland, OR has calls for entries entitled “Dreams: Illusion or Fantasy” with entries due May 7th, another entitled “Portrait: A Picture Show” due June 11th, and another entitled “Focus: Landscape and Architecture” due July 9th. This gallery offers free printing and framing of selected work, keeping costs reasonable if you are selected.

Gallery Photographica in San Francisco has their annual International Photography Exhibition with entries due May 8th. This exhibition is jurored by New England’s own Paula Tognarelli of the Griffin Museum.

Don’t Take Pictures has an upcoming call for entry for their Pinhole Photography show with entries due May 12th.

The Garrison Art Center in Garrison, NY has their annual Photocentric competition, with early entries due May 14th and final entries due June 6th.

The Maine Arts Commission has four different grants for artists and organizations, with submissions due May 15th.

StoneCrop Gallery in Ogunquit has their third annual call for entries for Cell Phone Photography, with entries due May 16th. Low entry fees and the fact that they make the prints make this a good one.

The Kiernan Gallery in Lexington, Virginia has a call for entry for their annual Portfolio Showcase  with entries due May 22nd.

The Aaron Siskind Foundation has a grant with submissions due May 23rd. Entry fee for this one is only $10…

Light Space & Time, an online gallery, has a call for entry for Landscapes with entries due May 27th.

The Davis Orton Gallery in Hudson, NY has an upcoming call for entries entitled “Flowers” due May 28th, followed by a documentary one due July 27th.

Another Cell Phone Photography show, this one based in Texas, has entries due June 1st.

The Minneapolis Photo Center has a call for entry entitled “Black & White” with entries due June 29th.

The international photography awards (ipa) has their annual call for entry with a final deadline of June 30th. This award is pretty prestigious as these things go, but it gets pretty expensive, too.

StillPoint Art Gallery has their next call for entries up, this one entitled “Earth Water Fire Air: Our World in Abstract”, with entries due July 1st.

NightVisions V, a call for entry for night photography from the Coconino Center for the Arts in Flagstaff, AZ, has submissions due July 1st.

There is a call for entries for artwork from the Kennebec Land Trust for their 25th anniversary, with entries due September 1st.

The Eighth Annual International Garden Photographer of the Year has entries due October 31st, but they have sub-contests due as early as March 31st. If this one is for you, I suggest you take a look at the details…

    Viewpoint Photographic Art Center is now accepting proposals for solo and group exhibitions from January through December, 2015. Each exhibit runs for approximately 4 weeks, with new exhibits opening during the second week of each month. We have 9 slots open in 2015 for Viewpoint’s Main Gallery and 10 slots open for the Step Up Gallery, which is reserved for exhibits by members of Viewpoint.

    Proposals for exhibits are open to all interested artists working in the photographic arts. Submissions may be made for solo or group exhibits. Proposals must be submitted online by midnight on August 2, 2014.
