Every month I summarize some of the upcoming calls for entries for photographers, particularly those in Maine and New England, so please find below my list for May 2018.
This list is certainly not exhaustive and usually reflects ones of particular interest to me, but hopefully it will be helpful to many of you as well.
The SohoPhoto Gallery is accepting submissions for their 2018 National Competition, with entries due May 1st.
Lensculture has their 2018 Street Photography Awards up now, with entries due May 1st. They provide a written submission review, too, a nice perk.
The Southeast Center for Photography has a call for entry entitled “Memory of Place” due May 6th and another entitled “Color” due June 3rd.
The PhotoPlace Gallery in Vermont has a call for entry titled “Black & White 2018”due May 7th and another titled “Environmental Portraits” due June 11th. They offer free framing in standard sizes, too, to help minimize costs if selected.
The San Francisco Bay International Photo Show is having an open submission, with entries due May 10th. This looks pretty interesting and I haven’t heard of it before, so I think it is new.
The BlackBox Gallery in Portland, OR has three upcoming calls… “Color Space: Contemporary Photography” due May 10th, “Camera Work: Landscape and Architecture” due June 7th, and “Grayscale: A Picture Show” due July 11th. This gallery offers free printing and framing of selected work, keeping costs reasonable if you are selected.
The Daylight Photo Awards (from Daylight Magazine) have their annual contest up, with entries due May 15th.
Klompching Gallery in NYC has their annual FRESH Summer Show open now, with entries due May 18th.
The Aaron Siskind Foundation is now accepting applications for their 2018 Individual Photographer’s Grant ($10,000 each), with submissions due May 18th.
The Center for Fine Art Photography in Ft. Collins, CO has their annual Center Forward Exhibition posted now, with submissions due May 20th.
The Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, CA, has their 2018 Members’ Juried Exhibition open for submissions now, with entries due May 25th.
The Davis Orton Gallery in Hudson, NY is accepting submissions for their various exhibitions throughout the year, with the next one up being “Portfolio Showcase 3” due May 27th.
Applications for the 2018 W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography will be accepted until May 31st. The grant amount this year is $35,000.
The popular Lenscratch website has their next free call for entry called “Good Manners”, with submissions due June 6th. This is the first juried one I’ve seen from them (though I may be forgetting some older ones).
