It is time for my monthly summary of upcoming calls for entries for photographers, particularly those in Maine and New England. There are many choices, so choose wisely unless you have unlimited resources of time and money!
This list is certainly not exhaustive and usually reflects ones of particular interest to me for the most part, but hopefully it will be helpful to many of you as well.
The Print Center in Philadelphia has their 90th Annual International Competition with entries due October 30th.
The Conscientious photography blog has their annual free portfolio competition coming up with entries due October 31st. If your work is a good fit for this site, I think this would be a great one to enter.
The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center has a call for entries entitled “Open Call NNE 2016” and open to New England artists, with entries due November 9th.
The Vermont PhotoPlace Gallery has a call for entries entitled “Alternative Cameras: Pinholes to Plastic” due November 9th and “A Celebration of Trees” due December 7th. They offer free framing in standard sizes, too, to help minimize costs if selected.
The BlackBox Gallery in Portland, OR has a few upcoming calls, one entitled “Color Photography: A Picture Show” due November 10th, another entitled “Landscape:Photography Now” due December 8th, and “Black and White: 2016” due January 6th. This gallery offers free printing and framing of selected work, keeping costs reasonable if you are selected.
The New Britain Museum of American Art has their 46th Annual Juried Members Exhibition (“The Nor’Easter”) coming up, with entries due November 14th.
The Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA has their annual Winter Solstice show coming up, with framed pieces due between November 20th and December 2nd. The exhibition is free and open to all members (not juried).
Don’t Take Pictures magazine has their next free call for entries due November 22nd, entitled “Roots and Branches”.
B&W Magazine has a group of four contests due November 30th and their 2016 annual portfolio contest with entries due December 31st.
Flash Forward has their annual call for entries coming up, with entries for the 2016 version due December 29th, 2015. This is for emerging photographers age 34 and younger.
The New York Center for Photographic Art has their next call, entitled “Interiors“, with entries due November 22nd and another entitled “Macro 2015” due, oddly enough, on January 10th, 2016. The oddly enough refers to the year, by the way.
The annual Maine Photography Show is coming up again, with entries due between December 1st and January 22nd, 2016.
The Elizabeth Moss Gallery in Falmouth, ME is having its annual New Artist Search for consideration for exhibitions and/or representation, due sometime in February 2016.
