School starts for my daughter tomorrow, but today it is time for my monthly summary of upcoming calls for entries for photographers, particularly those in Maine and New England, so please find below my list for September 2018. This tends to be a pretty quiet time of year.
This list is certainly not exhaustive and usually reflects ones of particular interest to me, but hopefully it will be helpful to many of you as well.
The Griffin Museum is managing the John Chervinsky Emerging Photographer Scholarship, with entries due September 5th. The winner gets a solo exhibition and a grant of $3,000.
Lensculture Magazine is teaming up with Aperture to run their annual Emerging Talent Awards, with entries due September 5th. A free submission review is also part of the package for all entries, a nice little perk.
The BlackBox Gallery in Portland, OR has two upcoming calls… “Poetics of Light” due September 6th and “Portrait:Photography” due October 11th. This gallery offers free printing and framing of selected work, keeping costs reasonable if you are selected.
The SoHo Photo Gallery has their next call up, entitled the “2018 Alternative Processes Competition”, with entries due September 7th.
The PhotoPlace Gallery in Vermont has a call for entry entitled “Travel: Places and Faces” due September 10th and another entitled “Fictional Narrative” due October 15th. They offer free framing in standard sizes, too, to help minimize costs if selected.
Maine Magazine is having an open call to their annual guide with entries due September 17th. This is a new thing (I believe) for a magazine that has had some recent struggles, but it is worth investigating if you are a Maine artist.
The Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, CA has their 2018 International Juried Exhibition up, with submissions due September 23rd. I will note that this one is more expensive than the typical submission.
The New York Center for Photographic Art has their next call up, entitled “Summer”, and submissions are due September 23rd.
The Southeast Center for Photography has a call for entry entitled “Fauna” due October 7th.
